senior nutrition monthEach March, the Celebration of the Senior Nutrition Program highlights the importance of helping older adults access the nutritious food they need to stay healthy and independent. For many older adults across the country, getting consistent, healthy meals is not always easy. In 2025, an estimated 13 million older adults experienced food insecurity1, meaning they do not always have reliable access to the food they need to support their health and daily lives. Good nutrition plays an important role in healthy aging: it helps reduce the risk of chronic illness, strengthens immune systems and supports cognitive health.

This year’s theme from the U.S. Administration for Community Living (ACL) is “Serving Up Solutions.” The theme highlights creativity, collaboration and innovation in the way we all should approach senior nutrition. Local programs across the country continue to adapt to meet the needs of their communities. From home-delivered meals to opportunities for older adults to gather and stay engaged, these programs are truly serving up solutions that support health, well-being, and independence.

Community Care Corps grantees reflect this month’s theme through their current programs that include nutrition as an important part of their services.

  • Fairbanks Senior Center supports older adults through Meals on Wheels.
  • CaringMatters helps volunteers assist older adults with food preparation at home.
  • Elderbridge Agency on Aging offers opportunities for older adults to gather through congregate meals.
  • AgeSpan provides home delivered meals to older adults who may have difficulty leaving home. Together, these programs show how nutrition services can support both health and connection.

Interested in celebrating National Senior Nutrition Month in your community? ACL offers graphics, toolkits and outreach materials that organizations can use to raise awareness and highlight the impact of senior nutrition programs.

For older adults and caregivers looking for nutrition services, the Eldercare Locator is a great resource that connects people with local meal programs and other supports that help older adults eat well and age well.
