Community Care Corps requires all volunteers providing service to pass a background check. Every volunteer providing assistance to any of the target populations must have a background check regardless of the number of interactions or type of interaction the volunteer has with the participant. This includes activities such as companionship phone calls. If your state does not require background checks for volunteers, at a minimum, Community Care Corps requires a basic background check for volunteers assisting its care receivers. If the volunteers are having direct contact with the caregiver or care recipient, fingerprints are also required. It is our duty to keep the vulnerable populations safe.
Organizations that bring in large groups of volunteers from, for example, a local business, to provide a one-day volunteer opportunity do not need to background check each individual in that group. However, the group will need to be supervised by a staff member or other volunteer who has been background checked.
Volunteers providing assistance such as outdoor chores that do not have one on one interaction with the participant are not required to get background checked. However, the volunteers will need to be supervised by a staff member or other volunteer who has been background checked.
If a volunteer has been background checked already, a new check will be required if it is greater that one year old.
