Addressing Ageism in Our Communities
On October 9, 2025, we observed Ageism Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness about the impact of ageism and to celebrate the value of older adults in our communities. The American Society on Aging (ASA) has compiled a collection of resources and toolkits to help organizations, volunteers, and community leaders advocate for age inclusivity and challenge stereotypes about aging.
These materials provide practical ways to promote positive perceptions of aging, engage volunteers, and create programs that celebrate the unique experiences of older adults. By sharing these resources, we can help spread the message that aging is a rich and varied experience, one that unites us and an opportunity to build a society that works for all ages.
ACL: The Power of Caregivers for a Healthy America
On November 18, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Community Living hosted The Power of Caregivers for a Healthy America: Building a Better Future Together, a national event honoring the 63 million family caregivers and more than 5 million direct care workers who support independence and strengthen communities nationwide.
Speakers at the event highlighted the vital role caregivers play in our health care system and the importance of continued investment in caregiver supports, training and stress reduction. The event recap also features personal stories from caregivers and care workers, along with the announcement of a new prize competition focused on advancing innovative solutions to better support caregiving across the country.
New Dementia-Friendly Resource
The holiday season can bring up strong emotions and nostalgic feelings, which sometimes highlights how stigma and misunderstanding around dementia can leave people feeling isolated from the traditions and communities they love.
Dementia Friendly America offers a new Dementia-Friendly Toolkit designed to help you plan engaging and meaningful gatherings that welcome all people you care about, including those living with dementia. This toolkit shares insightful and creative ways to:
- Reduce social isolation,
- Support connection and joy
- Create new ways of sharing traditions with family, friends, and community.
Caregiving and Transportation: Tools, Tips and Resources
The National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) has launched a new webpage, Caregiving and Transportation: Tools, Tips and Resources, bringing together materials designed to help transportation providers and caregivers work together more effectively.
Transportation plays a vital role in assisting (or aiding) family caregivers by helping them maintain employment, manage responsibilities, and access essential services for the person they support. This resource hub bridges the gap between transportation and caregiving by highlighting practical tools, publications, and related media that foster coordination and strengthen support for caregivers.
This resource provides strategies for collaboration, real-world examples of transportation and caregiver programs, and ideas to help improve mobility and connection in your community.
