Enhancing the work of programs supporting family caregivers across the nation is extremely important in today’s world where more than 53 million caregivers support their loved ones, allowing them to remain in the community. Altarum is committed to supporting ongoing efforts across national, state, and local levels to find innovative approaches to ensuring family caregivers have the resources and supports they need to care for their loved ones. As part of the Leadership Team for Community Care Corps Altarum champions the work of all the program grantees. Namely, Altarum relies on their evaluation expertise to support grantees to understand the impact of their programs by leaning on robust data and in-depth analyses.
Through the work to demonstrate the impact to communities, families, and volunteers, Altarum realized that Community Care Corps goes beyond merely providing volunteers to support individuals to maintain their independence. The goals and vision for the program align with many federal priorities to support family caregivers within the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. The program evaluation of Community Care Corps local models, conducted by Altarum, suggests that its impact aligns with all five goals listed in the National Strategy. It is clear that further enhancing and expanding the role of Community Care Corps, thereby increasing grantees' impact at the local level for family caregivers, can achieve additional outcomes and successes tied to each goal and overall advancement of support for family caregivers.
The C3 Program Impact and Alignment with National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers Policy Brief, prepared by Altarum and the Oasis Institute for the U.S. Administration for Community Living and its partners, outlines how C3 fits into each of the strategy's goals. As the RAISE Family Caregiver Act requires federal actions to remain within the scope of existing programs, enhancing and strengthening this program is a crucial opportunity to further national efforts to support family caregivers and ensure they have access to the services and resources required to continue supporting individuals in need of support.
Further analysis has also shown how Community Care Corps can lead to positive socioeconomic impacts within communities. The services provided to care recipients and caregivers support maintenance of overall physical health, emotional well-being and social connectedness, and independence within the community. Altarum will remain committed to supporting Community Care Corps to broaden its reach and expand the number of individuals that can be supported through innovative volunteer models.
